Have you ever wanted to play some of your favourite songs? Jam with friends or start a band? This group workshop is designed for adults without experience with the ukulele to learn about foundations of playing music alone and with others.

We will learn how about chords, notes on the ukulele neck, various strumming finger-picking patterns, and how to play your favourite songs together.

The material and pacing of our gatherings will be tailored to the level, skill and interests of the participants - you get to suggest the songs we learn!

If you do not have a ukulele please do not worry – Ukuleles will be provided for the first session at no additional cost, along with instructions of where and how to rent/purchase your own.

Meet your instructor
Arkady has lived in Victoria since 2015. He studied guitar performance at the University of Alaska and music history at the University of Victoria. His favorite Genres include folk, jazz, bluegrass and fingerstyle. He has been teaching in Canada and abroad for over 20 years.
Arkady performs as a bassist with Victoria based East European folk band Bucan Bucan and the Horsetail Bandits Trio. Since 2015, Arkady has also performed on bass, guitar and uke-bass with various jazz bands in the Anchorage (AK) area, gypsy jazz group Swing49 and the Chad Meyer Trio.

Through his music teaching business, Sunflower Music School, (http://www.sunflowermusicschool.ca) Arkady offers private and small group instruction in ukulele, guitar and bass to learners of all ages and all levels. Arkady strives to create a supportive, fun environment for learning which is tailored to students’ needs, knowledge and interests.
