Have you ever wanted to play some of your favourite songs? Jam with friends or start a band? This group workshop is designed for adults without experience with the guitar to learn about foundations of playing music alone and with others.

We will learn how about chords, notes on the guitar neck, various strumming and finger-picking patterns, and how to play your favourite songs together.

The material and pacing of our gatherings will be tailored to the level, skill and interests of the participants - you get to suggest the songs we learn!

If you do not have a guitar please do not worry – Guitars can be provided for the for the entire duration of the workshop for a cost of $40 (one-time fee)

If learners are interested, they are encouraged to also enroll in Gentle Intro to Music Theory to assist with their understanding of the various concepts learned during these sessions.

Meet your instructor

Arkady has lived in Victoria since 2015. He studied guitar performance at the University of Alaska and music history at the University of Victoria. His favourite Genres include folk, jazz, bluegrass and finger-style. He has been teaching in Canada and abroad for over 20 years. Arkady performs as a bassist with Victoria based East European folk band Bucan Bucan and the Horsetail Bandits Trio. Since 2015, Arkady has also performed on bass, guitar and uke-bass with various jazz bands in the Anchorage (AK) area, gypsy jazz group Swing49 and the Chad Meyer Trio. Through his music teaching business, Sunflower Music School, (http://www.sunflowermusicschool.ca) Arkady offers private and small group instruction in ukulele, guitar and bass to learners of all ages and all levels. Arkady strives to create a supportive, fun environment for learning which is tailored to students’ needs, knowledge and interests.
